A start up brewery approached a local architect and developer with the idea of a adapting a dilapidated 80+ year old building most recently home to a roofing company into a new craft brewery and community gathering space within the Historic Oakwood-Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The existing 1935 building posed multiple challenges in adapting to a production level craft brewery, chief among them the fact that the building included 5 level changes. Through a combination of punched openings and infills the Architect was able to unify elements within this dislocated space including a brewhouse, walk-in cooler, office spaces, and a small tasting room.
The material pallet was thoughtfully chosen to both highlight and frame the brewing process as a show piece for visitors and protentional investors but also provide a durable maintenance free finish that could withstand the rigors of the brewing process.
