The events of past weeks are a wake up call shining light on decades of unfairness, inequality, and injustice. During these uncertain times we look to our own past both as reminders of transgressions and oppression as well as sources for inspiration and rays of hope. We stand committed to fight for equality and justice for all members of our community. We must do better.  We will do better.

Dr. Robert J. Booker’s book is a great resource if you want to learn more about Knoxville’s complicated history.  You can find a copy at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center, another great resource. Find them online at www.beckcenter.net

We are also proud of how the architecture community within our state has actively responded with a collective declaration shared by all AIA and National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) chapters which vows to acknowledge, listen, learn, and act. Read the full declaration HERE.
