Urban Wilderness Gateway Park public meeting scheduled for September 18th.

An Urban Wilderness Gateway Park public meeting is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at South-Doyle Middle School Library, 3900 Decatur Drive.

City officials, the Urban Wilderness Gateway Park design team (Vaughn and Melton Consulting Engineers, Port Urbanism, Equinox, Sanders Pace Architecture, Gresham Smith and Partners), and community stakeholders will be in attendance.

The design team for the Urban Wilderness Gateway Park project will present revised concepts based on feedback gathered through online surveys, a series of small group meetings with neighborhoods and community members, and the Public Input Exhibition and Block Party held in June 2018.

The gateway project is a $10 million City investment to create a linear park connection from downtown’s Morningside Park to South Knoxville, serving as an adventure portal into the Urban Wilderness. The project was made possible by Gov. Bill Haslam and the Tennessee Department of Transportation deeding the state property to the City for public use.

Like other projects throughout the 1,000-acre Urban Wilderness, the gateway park will reflect the community and its natural, historic, recreational and environmental assets.

The upcoming public meeting will share the results of the community-guided process to create a framework, vision and concept report as well as a phasing plan.
